Discovering Cherry Valley’s Charms

Diana Stiles | Owner, Coco & Cordelia

Maybe it’s the scenic landscape. Maybe it’s the fresh air or the close-knit community. Whatever it is, there’s something about Cherry Valley that cultivates the creative spirit. For many years, artists have been drawn to this village in the northeastern part of Otsego County, including Beat poet Allen Ginsburg who owned a farm nearby. So it’s no surprise that Cherry Valley finds itself in the midst of a creative renaissance

For Diana Stiles, owner of the artisan boutique Coco & Cordelia, becoming a part of the artist community was a big draw in moving to Otsego County, along with her job as a fundraiser for an area non-profit. After her position was eliminated Diana “took the lemons thrown in my direction and made the lemonade,” opening Coco & Cordelia in June 2021 with a focus on jewelry and fiber arts. Diana creates unique statement pieces using copper and red brass, as well as heirloom fabric dolls. Open Thursdays to Sundays, Diana welcomes local and visiting collectors to her shop, spending the first half of the week in her home studio where she lets her creativity shine, bringing her many ideas to fruition.

“There is a never-ending abundance of people and places to meet and visit; the area’s geography is nothing short of spectacular; the folks here are authentic and welcoming…it’s tough to restrain myself about everything good and positive Cherry Valley and Otsego County has to offer!”

Some of her favorite places to visit include the Cherry Valley Sculpture Trail, Cherry Valley Books, and just exploring the “majestic backroads of my new home.” Located next door to the Rose & Kettle, Diana counts the restaurant as one of her favorites in Otsego County, as well as the Tryon Inn and Alex’s World Bistro in nearby Cooperstown. In this small town full of vitality, it’s easy to see how Diana Stiles continues to be inspired as she follows her own artistic path.
