Building a Bright Future

James Morris | Embedded Controls Engineer, Ioxus

At first glance, Otsego County would seem to be a beautiful, rural area in the heart of New York State. While it’s true that the spectacular landscape is a sight to behold, the county is also home to a major electronics manufacturer, Ioxus. Located in Oneonta, Ioxus is North America’s only fully integrated ultracapacitor manufacturing facility, developing, manufacturing and commercializing this technology for the military, transportation and alternative energy markets.

For James Morris, the blend of rural setting and cutting edge technology suits him perfectly. He first fell in love with the area while attending college at RPI in nearby Troy, NY. Growing up in Northwest Arkansas, he felt an affinity for the natural beauty of Central New York. “It was basically everything I loved about growing up in the Ozark Mountains, times ten.” His role as an Embedded Controls Engineer at Ioxus offered the opportunity to reunite with the bucolic setting of upstate New York, and contribute to the ever-growing demand for ultracapacitor technology.

With a beautiful home in Otego, James enjoys a short commute to the Ioxus facility. In his downtime, he likes to take in the view from his back patio, play the piano, or fly his first person video drone. Having only lived in Otsego County for a little over a year, James is looking forward to exploring the many outdoor adventures found in the area. While he considers fall to be his favorite season, because of the changing leaves and crisp air, James believes that there’s “really no such things as bad weather here. Whether it’s shining or raining, windy or snowy, it always has a way of being beautiful.”

The peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty of rural New York. A job in the cutting edge industry of ultracapacitor manufacturing. For James Morris, Otsego County offers the best of both worlds!
