Wired for Success
Kyle Kelley | Owner, KK Electric
Skilled tradespeople are in high demand in communities all across the country. For Kyle Kelley, a move to Otsego County offered him the chance to start his own electrical business, KK Electric. For a year and a half, he has plied his trade as an electrical contractor, making his own hours as he spends time with his family and takes care of their farm in Morris, NY.
Kyle moved to the area seeking a more enjoyable life for his wife and their two children, as well as the opportunity to spend more time with them. He took on the challenge of starting a business from scratch during the pandemic, but “Doing good work and being fair and honest with people goes a long way,” particularly as he set about making connections and building a customer base.
Kyle’s love of the outdoors and farming was another draw to living in Otsego County. Before setting out on the job, Kyle feeds the animals then packs up his truck for the day’s projects. One of the perks of setting his own hours is being home to eat dinner with his family, then spending time together as they do their nightly chores on the farm. When he has free time, Kyle enjoys getting outside, whether it’s in his backyard by Butternut Creek or hiking at Glimmerglass State Park in Cooperstown or Gilbert Lake State Park in Laurens.
With a preference for cooler weather, Kyle counts hunting and snowmobiling as some of his favorite pastimes. Otsego County has a wealth of places to get outside and enjoy nature, and is a draw for many looking to explore the outdoors. As Kyle states, “If you like the outdoors, a laid back atmosphere, and good people, this is the place to be.” We couldn’t agree more!
